Footscan – Advanced Gait, Foot & Movement Assessment at The Clarke Clinic Cornwall
Enhance your foot, knee, hip, pelvic and back health with Footscan in combination with our gait and postural analysis.
Footscan is the industry leading gait and movement technology, we provide detailed, data-driven assessment of how your feet function whilst standing and walking.
Footscan has been utilised in more than 3,000 scientific studies and used within the British Armed Forces to assess risk of lower limb injury. Footscan has over 4000 micro sensors, producing the most accurate and precise pressure and foot movement data available.
The data from each scan helps us understand, pressure and movement patterns that can correlate with foot or ankle problems, or pain in the knee, hip, or back. We then tailor treatment, rehabilitation, and for certain presentations, recommend orthotics to improve your comfort, stability, performance, movement, and prevent future muscle and joint pain.
What is Footscan?
Footscan has over 4000 pressure sensors within a 0.5m pressure plate, producing data and information about how your feet interact with the ground.
This advanced technology measures:
- Pressure distribution across each foot
- Timing and sequence of your foot movements
- Balance and weight distribution
- Foot position and alignment
- Gait symmetry and anomalies
What happens during a Footscan appointment?
- A consultation surrounding your lifestyle, physical and general health.
- Postural observation and examination of your foot, ankle, knee, hip, pelvic and lower back movements. This helps us understand your mobility. We then further assess any areas of pain and immobility with orthopaedic tests.
- You stand, balance, or walk barefoot across the pressure plate. Footscan generates data about your foot pressure and movement patterns.
- We analyse the data to identify any potential areas of high pressure, timing discrepancy, instability, and compensatory movements.
- Based on the results, we recommend bespoke treatment, and rehabilitation, which may include custom 3D-printed Phits orthoses, which are designed from your individual scan data, specifically for your feet.
Who Should Consider a Footscan Gait Analysis?
- People experiencing foot, ankle, knee, lower limb pain, and those with reoccurring injuries.
- Athletes looking to assess movements, enhance performance and prevent injuries.
- Runners who experience recurring pain at a similar distance or timeframe into their run.
- Individuals with chronic joint problems or abnormal walking patterns.
- Patients with diabetes or neuropathy.
- Anyone wanting a thorough assessment of their joints, balance, foot pressure and movement.
