Pain from muscle cramps can range from being a mild nuisance to incapacitating, and can keep us awake at night. Cramps occur when muscles involuntarily shorten, they commonly affect the calf and foot and can last from seconds, up to ten minutes. Cramps are associated with poor circulation, mineral deficiency, dehydration, pregnancy and types of medication such as statins.

Cramps can be prevented by utilising osteopathic techniques including massage, stretching and mobilisation, reducing muscle tension and improving circulation. We also assess other areas of the body; such as the back, pelvis, hip and knee which provide nerve and arterial pathways, supplying the muscles in our legs.
